Olivia- Pyramids at Giza (must be built to scale)
Aiden-Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Students must create a 3-D model of their assigned Ancient Wonder. Models should not be smaller than 12"x12" or larger than 24"x30". Students may use any materials (card board, clay, papier mache, paint, sand, fake foliage, paper, ...) Students may not use Legos or food items. Students will be graded on accuracy, effort, neatness, and knowledge. Student must also give a small oral report on their project. Their oral report should include: who built their structure and why/purpose, how and when was it built, how, when, and/or why was it destroyed, where was/is it located, why it was/is considered a wonder. Project and report due 3/8/13.

Parents, thank you all so much for the donations you sent to school so that we could make homemake oatmeal packets for Trinity Episcopal Church . We were able to make 60 packets!
On our day of service field trip we went to the Tapc center to sort clothes, clean and add batteries to toys, and help out in any way we could. Mrs. Browne, Ms. Browne's Mother told us the 5th and 6th graders were the best group of volunteers that had come to their facility.

5th Grade Oatmeal Packets
Many thanks to all of you who sent in items for the oatmeal packets. The only thing we need more of is RAISINS. Thank you all so much for your generosity. Our class will be making the packets on Wednesday so the 8th grade can take them to Trinity Episcopal Church on Thursday as part of their Day of Service activities. Intermediate Reading
We are starting a new book report project. I will email you the complete assignment, so check your emails. This will be a character book report. You will need to select a book that has a famous character, such as Harriet the Spy, Harry Potter, Jane Eyre, Matilda, etc. THIS MUST BE A BOOK YOU HAVE NEVER READ BEFORE.
On the day your oral presentations are due, you may dress as your character.
You will be expected to AR test on the book in addition to writing and presenting your report.
Presentations will be on February 27 and 28.
Suggested timeline:
Feb. 4 - last day to select book and begin reading (make sure that you establish a reading plan)
Feb. 22 - complete book and take AR test
Feb. 23/24 - write first draft of report
Feb. 25/26 - read, revise, proof, publish written report
Feb. 27/28 - make presentation
